Important Information

We understand that the journey into independent living is not always easy, and we will support you through it. But we have zero tolerance for violence, drugs and alcohol while you are living with us.

Below are the agreements you sign, our house rules, and what happens if they are broken.

What You Sign

Licence Agreement

Sets out your right to occupy your room, what you pay, and the notice arrangements. You occupy under a personal licence protected by the Protection from Eviction Act 1977.

Behaviour & Engagement Agreement

Sits alongside your licence and sets out the rules below, and what we provide in return. You sign both before you move in.

HOUSE RULES

Our Rules

This is an abstinence-based recovery house. These are conditions of living here and they apply to everyone.

Non-negotiable

No illegal drugs. You must not use, possess, store, bring in or share any illegal drug.
No alcohol in the house or its grounds.
Abstinence applies away from the house as well as in it.
You must take part in drug and alcohol testing when asked.
No violence, threats of violence, intimidation, bullying or harassment towards residents, staff or visitors.
No dealing, supplying or sharing drugs or alcohol with anyone.
No weapons or anything intended to harm on the property.

What we expect of you

Treat residents, staff and visitors with respect.
Take part in your support plan and attend your keyworking sessions.
Attend the weekly house meeting.

WHAT WE PROVIDE

In Return

A safe, decent home and your own room.
A support plan agreed with you and reviewed regularly.
Keyworking support each week.
To be treated with dignity and respect, and to be listened to.
Fair, consistent and honest treatment.

BREACHES

If Rules Are Broken

Any drug or alcohol use, possession, positive test or refused test is a breach of your agreement.
The outcome of a breach is decided by New Start, case by case. The agreement does not set an automatic warning or second chance.
Lower-level issues such as missed sessions or house-rule breaches are dealt with by a conversation, a plan and staged warnings.
Repeated breaches, dishonesty or refusal to engage can end your place here.

Your place ends immediately for:

Violence, threats of violence or intimidating behaviour.
Dealing, supplying or sharing drugs or alcohol.
Bringing a weapon onto the property, or any act that seriously endangers others.

We act lawfully at all times. You will not be physically removed or locked out without your agreement to leave or a court order. We will help you find somewhere to go.

COMPLAINTS

Raising a Concern

You have the right to be heard before a decision about your place here.
You can make a complaint to your keyworker or the Project Manager.
Making a complaint in good faith will not be held against you.
